The tea is hot and GAY

Let’s start with the news everyone has been on about this week: Cara Delevingne at the Billboard Music Awards. If you’ve been following Delevingne recently, you know she’s become known for her chaotic behavior as of late – dancing uncomfortably close to Azealia Banks on stage, making out with Shailene Woodley in hotel bars, for example. This Sunday, Delevingne was especially on one, as she followed around Megan Thee Stallion all night, peeking around the corner at the red carpet, grabbing the tail of her dress and throwing it in the air, and popping up like an energizer bunny next to Megan as she was talking to Doja Cat. (She was also on the floor taking pictures?) Ex-girlfriend Ashley Benson was liking memes about Delevingne on Twitter, which she has every right to do. As Coleman Spilde writes in The Daily Beast, Cara Delevingne Has Become Hollywood’s Weirdest—and Most Unwelcome—Party Girl. We’re all waiting with bated breath to see who she’s going to terrorize next.

New buff women just dropped. Marvel has released a first look at Tessa Thomspon and Natalie Portman in Thor: Love and Thunder, and they are both looking quite swoll. Will this actually be gay, or are we just brain-dead and thirsty? Writer Fran Hoepfner wants us to stop lying and admit that No One Is Actually Excited About Buff Natalie Portman, and Kaiya Shunyata argues that We Need to Stop Looking to the MCU for Queer Representation. They’re probably right, but perhaps we can live in denial for a little bit longer.

The first trailer for First Kill, the new Netflix series, has been released. The show follows two teen girls – one a legacy vampire and one a vampire hunter – who form an unexpected bond but find that their families complicate things. (Hint, it’s gay). We’ll be honest, it does look kind of like a medium-to-low budget CW series or like if Gossip Girl was on SyFy, but we're hoping it will deliver on the sapphic vampire promise. At the very least, it looks like we will be getting a MILF battle. We also know that the advertising team has taste, because they hired iconic sapphic artist Jenifer Prince to create a cool vintage poster for the series. See the trailer here.

Adèle Haenel, star of Portrait of a Lady on Fire, has recently announced she will no longer be participating in the film industry. In a new interview, Haenel said “I don’t make films anymore. Because of political reasons. Because the film industry is absolutely reactionary, racist, and patriarchal…By leaving this industry for good, I want to take part in another world, in another cinema.” Haenel famously walked out of the César awards when Roman Polanski won, and has long been outspoken in her beliefs about feminism and social issues. Everything she said is correct, of course, but we’re sad to see her go. Hopefully, her ex-girlfriend Céline Sciamma will write another film for her to star in so she can grace our screens once again.

More dispatches from sapphic cyberspace:

  • European sapphic favorites Suranne Jones and Camille Cottin had a bath room moment at the BAFTAs.

  • BBC has announced a documentary called Gentleman Jack Changed My Life, which will look at how the show has impacted fans.

  • girl in red has a new music video out, and it was directed by Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer.

  • Autostraddle has some great Chrishell and G Flip headlines.

  • JoJo Siwa and (newly reunited) girlfriend Kylie kissed in front of the Venice Beach pride flag lifeguard tower.

  • The Indigo Girls were on Debbie Millman’s podcast this week.

  • A new horror film called They/Them will be produced by Blumhouse. (The “slash” is in fact meant to be pronounced in the title.) It will be set at a conversion therapy camp. Slay, we guess?

  • Hayley Kiyoko has announced nearly the full cast for her new show/music video/song “For The Girls.” One of the contestants is TikToker Avery Cyrus. We still don’t know exactly what “For The Girls” is, but we do know it’s coming on Thursday evening.

  • There will be a trans mutant superhero in an upcoming Marvel comic. Marvel comics has always been lightyears ahead of the MCU in terms of representation, so this is not surprising.

  • Heartsopper’s Yasmin Finney will be a part of the new Doctor Who series.

  • The CW recently canceled ike all of it’s shows, including queer favorites Legacies, 4400, Roswell: New Mexico, Naomi, and Charmed. Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman were also cancelled recently, the latter of which came as a huge blow to black queer women. The TV bubble has most certainly popped.

  • Speaking of cancellations, Netflix has laid off another group of writers and content creators. This time it appears that many of the staff at Most, Netflix’s queer channel, have been let go, along with writers from other social channels. We hate this!

Until next time,
