Be still our sapphic hearts

Be still our sapphic hearts. Last Friday, the lesbian convention conspired to give us a bunch of new music. MUNA’s new self-titled album is out, and they’ve also released a music video for their excellent song “What I Want,” which stars iconic comedian Meg Stalter. The song does make us want to go dance at a gay bar, just like lead singer Katie Gavin says. We’ve also got a new release from Hayley Kiyoko – her song “Deep In The Woods” from her forthcoming album PANORAMA. No music video yet, but here’s hoping. Lastly, FLETCHER dropped a new track called “Her Body Is Bible,” which is off her upcoming debut album, Girl of My Dreams, which comes out September 16. We can only hope this summer will be filled with even more gay music.

A cute engagement story? Booksmart star Beanie Feldstein and her British girlfriend Bonnie Chance, favorites of wholesome lesbians everywhere, shocked the world with their Instagram post last week. Bonnie proposed to Beanie – seemingly in front of Beanie’s family and friends – and Beanie said yes! (Obviously.) It was all very quaint and sweet.

Will we finally get a sequel to Carol? We’ve recently got wind of a new Todd Haynes project called May December, which will star Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore and “tells the story of a Hollywood actress (Portman) who travels to the coast of Maine to study the real-life woman (Moore) she’s set to play in a film.” Since Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett (barely) reuniting in Nightmare Alley was far from the Carol sequel we had hoped, maybe this will give us the aesthetically perfect lesbian romance we desire. If Julianne Moore is in it, it’s got to be gay, right?

And last by not least though we like to keep this newsletter lighthearted we would be remiss not to mention the anger, frustration and hopelessness that many of us are experiencing in light of the court ruling. A great friend of GayJoy, Maggie Goldstone talked about not wanting Pride to be drowned out by fear in a poignant NYT article, Pride March in NY Infused with New Sense of Urgency written by another amazing GayJoy friend Lauren McCarthy. It resonated. Now that we've had a few days to process in our own way, we acknowledge that we have a lot of work to do. The decision has consequences that will be felt most acutely by women of color and people who lack the economic means to access reproductive care. For starters, as an NY based community we wanted to share how to support locally in non-monetary ways:

Write to your representatives in the Senate and House of Representatives to urge them to codify Roe v. Wade

If you did celebrate with us and LEX this weekend - here is your GAYJOY (click link 4 pics). Cheers to being gay as fuck.

Until next time,

A well-hydrated lesbian who brings their Hydro Flask to Pride
