The Gay Counterattack

Lesbian internet drama is the gift that keeps on giving. If you thought the Fletcher/Becky/Shannon drama has finally been put to bed, then you are sadly mistaken. Last week, Becky Missal and gf Shannon Beveridge released “Becky” t-shirts in response to Fletcher’s song “Becky’s So Hot,” and they immediately sold out. Not one to be left out of the drama, Fletcher made a TikTok illustrating that she had bought one (or $81.99 worth of tees) of the t-shirts herself. The video is soundtracked by a new song of hers that includes the lyrics “don’t you wish I was your girlfriend still.”

In response, Shannon made her own TikTok “duet” with Fletcher where she shakes her head “no” as that lyric plays. Meanwhile, Shannon’s other ex, Cammie Scott, who is getting married soon, made a TikTok in response to people asking her about the drama. Her response: “I don’t know what’s going on, and I simply don’t wanna know.” Cammie has clearly retired from the lesbian internet drama, while Shannon just keeps getting pulled back in.

If you don’t like gay baseball, then you’re a hater. The Amazon series A League of Their Own, which stars and is produced by Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson, premiered on Friday. It has been getting rave reviews from lesbian and queer viewers, but some audience members just couldn’t handle the outright dykery. A few days after its initial release, the series had a very low rating of 2/5 stars on Amazon due to homophobic viewers complaining about the show’s rampant lesbianism. (Check out some hilarious excerpts here and a sample below - to which we say take a hike).

When people realized what was happening, a call was put out into cyberspace for non-homophobic fans to leave positive reviews to offset these nasty ones. The gay counterattack was effective, as the show now has a respectable 4-star rating on Amazon.

Meanwhile, we’ve learned of an off-screen couple involving two League of Their Own cast members. Omnipresent purveyor of lesbian gossip betteportergallery made an Instagram post claiming that Roberta Colindrez (who you may know from Vida and I Love Dick) is dating comedian Kate Berlant, who also stars in the show. Calindrez has a private Instagram and when asked about it by The Cut, she explained it’s “Because lesbians are creepy.” She’s right, of course, and we’re (kind of) sorry for gossiping about her.

There’s more lesbian TV on the horizon. The first teaser trailer for Tegan and Sara’s new tv show, High School, has been released. Based on their memoir of the same name, the series is written and directed by lesbian icon Clea DuVall and stars TikTok stars and real-life twins Railey Gilliland and Seazynn Gilliland. It will debut on October 14 on Freevee, an Amazon service.

We’ve also received word of some exciting Yellowjackets news (spoilers ahead). It’s been announced that Lauren Ambrose has been cast as adult Van in the show’s second season. This is a great casting choice in our opinion and, obviously, it means that Van has been alive this whole time. We have so many questions, and we can’t wait for them to be answered next season.
