What’s your drink of choice? If you know the answer to this question, you may be entitled to financial compensation, a therapy session, or a tax deduction for being gay and mentally unstable. Last week, the sapphic internet became inexplicably obsessed with this video of Olivia Cooke and Emma D’arcy, two of the stars of House of Dragon. (Their characters on the show have hella gay subtext, but that is a story for another day.) Cooke asks D’arcy what their drink of choice is, and they respond “A negroni. Sbagliato. With prosecco in it.” Something about D’arcy’s sensual intonation – and Cooke’s reaction – has put some sort of gay spell over our community that we may never recover from. (New York Times Cooking even got wind of the phenomenon.) Are we okay? No! Sometimes, queer people just have one big horny brain. Just the one.
Shout out to Peyton Dix one of the most important voices of our generation...
Who’s coming out on Tik Tok? Tik Tok just got a little gayer. Shay Mitchell – who may know from playing the iconic lesbian character Emily Fields on Pretty Little Liars, among other things – came out as bisexual (again) on TikTok. She dueted with a video asking “if you identify as bisexual..do you own a green velvet couch?” as she sat on a – you guessed it – green velvet couch. This might be news to some, but Mitchell has actually been making comments indicating her bisexuality since at least 2016, reports Autostraddle. She’s been bi. Shortly thereafter, Emily Ratajkowski responded to Shay Mitchell’s video indicating that she too possesses a green velvet couch (and is presumably bisexual as well). Please message us if you are also a bisexual who owns a green velvet couch.
In other news, Madonna may have just come out as gay as well. She posted a video on Tik Tok captioned “If I miss, I’m gay.” She then proceeds to throw a pair of neon pink underwear into a wastebasket in her opulent bathroom, missing by a mile. If this is indeed a coming-out video, it’s a hilarious one. Her pink hair and her bleached eyebrows? The way she gestures at the end? It’s perfectly unhinged, and we would expect nothing less from her. It’s also not surprising, as Madonna has been openly bisexual for years and once employed actor and model Jenny Shimizu as her “sex slave,” according to Shimizu herself.
Love is in the air. Beanie Feldstein and her fiance Bonnie Chance, our resident wholesome lesbian couple, took some adorable engagement photos last week. They look kind of like wedding photos, but we’re pretty sure they haven’t actually tied the knot. We’ll be waiting on an invitation. Speaking of weddings, model Celeste Lopez-Romero got married to her girlfriend recently, reports betteportergallery. On the other end of the wholesome/raunchy spectrum, HBO Max announced that Harley Quinn will be getting a Valentine’s Day episode entitled “A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special.” If you haven't gotten into Harley Quinn yet, it’s time to change that.
Other dispatches from the little gay people inside the internet:
Hear from Brittney Griner’s wife, Cherelle, on CBS News.
Michaela Coel told Vogue that the main reason she decided to be in Wakanda Forever was to play a lesbian. That’s right!
Speaking of Vogue, we’re obsessed with Kristen Stewart’s monologue about the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week.
Jamie Clayton is giving us everything as Pinhead in the new Hellraiser film, which is streaming now on Hulu.
The gay vampires are having gay sex in the new, very gay adaptation of Interview With a Vampire.
Political Dispatches:
On National Coming Out Day, The Trevor Project announced it was expanding its operations to Mexico.
The Jon Stewart interview with Arkansas AG Leslie Rutledge has gone viral. It is a must watch about why her state banned gender-affirming care for minors - ignoring the guidelines of major medical organizations and taking the decision out of parents’ hands. According to writer Alvin McEwen this is "monumental because it's probably the first time someone from one of those states trying to prevent gender-affirming care for trans kids was directly and specifically questioned about their motives."
Until next time,
