Another gay Cate Blanchett role is afoot
Welcome to our new queer readers!
Before we get into this weeks tea, we want to share a piece that we have been working on these past few days. Written by Emily Motti the piece explores what we learned about the intersection of race and queerness in the Lena Wilson and Amandla Stenberg drama. In their writing Motti elaborates on how Wilson wielded her social power and body language to play "victim" in this narrative. When in reality, she was more like a bully, playing a role the white media's incessant over-sexualization of black femmes and silencing of black creators. Check it out here and let us know your thoughts.
Now back to this week in queer news.
Gay haircut alert. The great Kristen Stewart has resurfaced on social media this week, and we’ve been blessed to discover that she is now rocking a mullet. Stewart sported this new ‘do while attending Demi Lovato’s 30th birthday party, of all things. Also in attendance were an eclectic group of individuals including Paris Hilton, Paris Jackson, and Ashley Benson. (Cara Delevingne did not appear to be in attendance.) Stewart’s fiancee, Dylan Meyer, also posted an extra grungy pic of the new style.
Another gay Cate Blanchett role is afoot. Cate Blanchett stans quickly perked up last week when a new trailer for her new film TÁR was released. The film follows Lydia Tár (Blanchett), a world-renowned classical music conductor. We’re not really sure about the plot apart from that but Blanchett does appear to do some lesbian kissing in the trailer, making it the second sapphic film she’s starred in directed by a man named Todd. (This time it’s Todd Field.)
French gender revelations. Chris, the musician behind the French group Christine and the Queens, announced on TikTok recently that he “has been living as a man” for a year now and uses he/him pronouns. His new album, which is called Redcar les adorables étoiles, will be released under the name ‘Christine and the Queens presents Redcar,” and is set to come out September 23.
Other dispatches from the little gay people inside the internet:
Megan Thee Stallion and City Girls’ Yung Miami heavily flirted with each other on a podcast, and we all screamed.
The Prime Minister of Finland has gotten in trouble for being too cool and hot again, and this time it involved topless lesbian kissing.
Bad Bunny kissed one of his male backup dancers at the VMAs this weekend, and the homophobic context of the Puerto Rican music industry makes the performance even more significant. The Harry Styles jokes immediately followed.
The cast of a League of Their Own are planning to read fanfic out loud on Instagram live soon.
Becca Tilley finally got to see Hayley Kiyoko perform her new album live. (Warning: the pictures are cute.)
Sapphic singer Dove Cameron won Best New Artist at the VMAs.
Britney Spears has a new song with Elton John so she took to TikTok to speak in her wonderfully weird British accent.
Political Things:
Serbia is canceling the first EuroPride in the CEE region after falling under pressure from ultra-right groups. Read about it here.
Republican representative Lauren Boebert has bizarrely claimed president Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan is funding ‘lesbian dance theory’ degrees. Only one question, where do we sign up for that class?
Until next time,
That baby gay at the bar wearing rainbow socks
