We’re all bagels here. The biggest event of last weekend was The Oscars, also known as out-of-touch folks making decisions that have an outsized effect on popular culture as a whole. Everything Everywhere All At Once swept the show, winning more “above the line” awards than any other film in history. Queer darling Stephanie Hsu (and Angela Bassett, who did the thing) lost Best Supporting Actress to little miss Activia, Jamie Lee Curtis, which is a crying shame. Totally unprompted, Curtis revealed that she has given her Oscar they/them pronouns in honor of her trans daughter. And that’s on #allyship. In other gay news, EEAAO also became the first Best Picture winner to feature a queer woman lead character, which is something.

But frankly, the most important business of the evening is the fashion, not the awards. The winner of the whole night was Hunter Schafer, who arrived at the Vanity Fair after-party in a truly daring and glamorous ensemble. Lady GaGa appeared on stage looking like she had just walked into an auditorium ready to perform a ballad at a high school assembly. Also, Kristen Stewart showed up to the Chanel Pre-Oscars dinner wearing shorts and posed with Nicole Kidman like she was her child.

Somewhere in lesbian Hollywood…a party bus roamed the streets of LA. We need to thank Stephanie Allynne for her contributions to the culture, because she posted a video several days ago that rocked our world. For some reason, Allynne was on a party bus with none other than Sarah Paulson, Holland Taylor, Sherri Saum from The Fosters, Allison Janney (is she an honorary lesbian?), Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, and of course, her wife, Tig Notaro. The aforementioned women are dancing with abandon as they listen to “Closer to Fine” by the Indigo Girls – of course they are! (Another video was posted where they were jamming to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and Paulson is still up on her feet dancing.) Where can we get tickets to this lesbian party bus??? Where is the full, unabridged version of this evening???

For your reading pleasure, check out this fascinating deep dive on Café Tabac, a New York City salon that was host to the city’s hottest sapphic it-girls in the mid-1990s. Trish Bendix writes that this venue has often been credited with giving birth to the “lesbian chic” moment. Huge stars like Madonna were once spotted there, as were more niche celebs like Jenny Shimizu (who once claimed she was Madonna’s “sex slave.”) The article also touches on Madonna’s falling out with Sandra Bernhard and her flirtation with k.d. lang, among other things.

Other dispatches from the little gay people inside of the internet:

  • A League of Their Own was finally renewed for a second season – but it will only be four episodes long.

  • Famed stylist Law Roach – who styled Schafer’s after-party look – has announced his retirement.

  • Indya Moore was on the cover of Vogue Portugal paying homage to her ancestors.

  • 070 Shake appears to be dating Lily-Rose Depp following her split from Kehlani.

  • Scream VI provided further representation for that one annoying gay film nerd in your friend group. You’re gonna have to watch the film to know whether the lesbians survived or not.

  • Speaking of Jasmin Savoy Brown, the new Yellowjackets trailer teased a very important lesbian reunion.

  • Italian-American king Michael Imperioli supports trans rights.

Until next time,
